Job Description

General Summary:

The BPN Coding Specialist is responsible for assigning diagnostic, procedural, and complication codes to all inpatient, ambulatory surgery, emergency room and outpatient patient records. Ensures that all coded records meet the Federal, State and Payer coding requirements.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision and beliefs of Bryan Health and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Reviews appropriate documents in the EHR to assign procedural and diagnostic codes according to Federal, State and Payer coding requirements.
3. *Performs audits at each outside clinic and compiles the results.
4. *Reviews and corrects any denials from insurance companies.
5. *Answers questions from outside clinics regarding coding issues.
6. Works as a team member while focusing on accuracy and increasing productivity to meet turnaround standards.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Class work in ICD-10-CM, CPT Coding, and related courses from an accredited college or acceptable program required. PMI's CMC certification or AAPC's CPC or CPC-P certification or AHIMA's CCA, CCS or CCS-P certification credential required. Prior coding experience in a medical environment is preferred.
