Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Clinical Psychologist is responsible for completing patient assessments and diagnosis, psychological testing and evaluation, treatment planning, supportive therapy, crisis intervention, individual, group, and family psychotherapy, discharge planning and evaluation of care in collaboration with the patient, family and health care team. The Clinical Psychologist must relate to and work well with people of all cultures and ages, providing clinical services appropriate to individual and group needs.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Performs and documents initial and continuing patient assessment, including assignment of diagnosis, in conformance with regulatory and oversight standards and requirements.

3. *Administers and interprets psychological testing.

4. *Formulates and documents psychological evaluations.

5. *Constructs individualized treatment plans based on patients' strengths and needs identified in the diagnostic assessment.

6. *Effectively implements planned interventions including individual, group, and/or family therapy; documents actions and outcomes in conformance with departmental and legal requirements.

7. *Evaluates and documents patients' progress.

8. *Modifies or extends patients' treatment program as clinically indicated.

9. *Intervenes as a crisis counselor in situations requiring immediate psychological intervention.

10. *Communicates with family members and significant others involved in the patient's continuing treatment to enhance treatment effectiveness and progress.

11. *Consults with physicians, nursing staff, social workers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement optimal treatment plans.

12. *Maintains current knowledge of procedures, equipment, and supplies necessary for state-of-art assessment and treatment of patients; makes recommendations to the Manager as requested.

13. *Documents information in conformance with all oversight, regulatory, and legal requirements including Joint Commission, CMS, and Medical Center procedures.

14. *Exhibits fiscal accountability through cost-effective use of time, materials, and other resources.

15. *Screens prospective patients to determine appropriateness for admission to Mental Health Services or referral to other community resources.

16. *Provides supervision and training to therapists, other staff, and students as requested by Manager.

17. *Maintains confidentiality of information and knowledge about patients and other employees gained through position at the Medical Center.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Current unrestricted license to practice psychology in the State of Nebraska required. Doctoral degree in Psychology required. Licensure or certification at the independent level of psychology to furnish diagnostic, assessment, preventive, and therapeutic services directly to individuals. Minimum of two (2) years experience working with mental health populations in assessing, diagnosing disorders, treatment planning, conducting psychological evaluations and providing therapy to patients required.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
