Summary

Provides middle office support within Public Investments (PI) to ensure smooth execution of PI investments.Helps resolve complex problems to ensure timely settlement of all transactions. Acts as a technical expert in assigned areas. Develops and implements new middle office-related processes and re-engineers existing processes to improve efficiencies and outcomes. Provides ad hoc reporting, analysis, and upgrades to decision support materials for the PI investment team.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages the trade confirmation process and monitors settlements related to money markets and repo, government bonds, investment grade fixed income securities, high yield bonds, over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives, Treasury futures, and foreign exchange for PI. This is especially critical in light of the market's upcoming transition to T+1 settlement for most securities.

  • Works closely with brokers, traders, portfolio managers and NM's accounting and investment operations areas to ensure timely execution of procedures and workflows.

  • Coordinates efforts of traders, portfolio managers and the quantitative team to ensure integrity and accuracy of data underlying various analytic systems (e.g., Bloomberg and BlackRock), databases and investment reports.

  • Produces reports and provides analysis for various areas in PI using Excel and several analytical platforms including Bloomberg, BlackRock, and Calypso.

  • Supports and manages the election process for corporate actions.

  • Facilitates public bond transfers across PI-managed portfolios.

  • Provides analytic support for PI's Structured Products area.

  • Implements and supports the daily annuity rate setting process for PI.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, information management, or related field.

  • Minimum of four years of middle office (or middle office-related) experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of fixed income investments. Strong interpersonal skills and analytical ability.

  • Proficiency in Excel is a must.

  • Strong working knowledge of Bloomberg, BlackRock, Calypso, and/or other investment systems is desirable.

Compensation Range:

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
